In our last program, we viewed politics and personality through the eyes of an Enneagram 4.
In this interview, Ian and Suzanne continue their exploration of the Enneagram 4 through the thoughts and stories of Don Chaffer, one of the singer/songwriters in the group Waterdeep. Also: producer, engineer, and, lately, musical theater composer/lyricist.
If you are a person who enjoys the unusual, the dramatic, and the textured side of life, then discover:
- Why you take such comfort in sad songs, movies, and stories.
- Why it's difficult for you to find your place in a room full of people.
- Why you have so many feelings in a day and it's hard to know which ones to pay attention to.
- Why you're frustrated when people misunderstand you.
- Why 4's enjoy long conversations in the Home Depot parking lot.
This episode is insightful, funny and it includes a live performance by Don of one of his original songs. You won't want to miss this one, regardless of your Enneagram number...Enjoy!
And, please join us next week as we interview caring parents of two small children who are both Enneagram 1's, as we explore the struggles and joy of sharing an Enneagram number and how it impacts their parenting.

I wanted to say thank you for this podcast. I am a 40 year old momma, artist, high school art teacher, and follower of Jesus. I just discovered the Enneagram and my number - 4 - about 6 months ago. Starting this podcast I thought Don’s name sounded familiar, then when he started singing I realized Waterdeep. I discovered Waterdeep in college at Bridgeway church in the late 90’s. Not understanding I was a 4 then I understand why I loved his songs then. This conversation was a blessing and I chime in with a “yes” to all of it. Brought back some fun memories of my own outfits in high school. Going to catch up on some Waterdeep songs as well. ❤️

You know, some of us 7's can be deep and meaningful. Anyway, the song was bitter sweet and beautiful. It made me think about how adult life has caused me to walk away from some of the simple joy I knew as a kid. I am reminded that stopping and offering God the worship of joy in the small thing of life, a cup of tea, morning sunlight, are things always worth making time for.

Wow, this is enlightening. I'm pretty sure my husband is a 4 and I'm a 9. I find myself telling him sometimes, "I just can't handle your energy right now."
